Airtel Networks Zambia Plc. Managing Director Ms. Charity Chanda Lumpa announced today the launch of the first ever Airtel Media Excellence Awards, which will recognize and reward journalistic excellence in Zambia. The Awards which will be an annual event are open to all Zambian journalists.
Speaking today at the Awards launch at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka, Ms. Lumpa said “the awards are aimed at pushing the depths of journalism from just merely telling a story to showcasing how lives and enterprises have changed through the
use of telecommunication products and services provided by Airtel.”
Airtel Networks Zambia Plc’s objective is to provide quality products and services to the Zambian community.
The company continues to offer telecommunication solutions that facilitate change in the lives of many Zambians in both the rural and urban areas.“Airtel is therefore challenging the media to tell these stories in the most creative, well researched and balanced manner that will allow Zambians to read about many successful ventures at individual, SME or Corporate level,” she said.
Judges will be looking for how skilfully the journalist will portray the human factor in the stories. They will also look for skilful reporting of entrepreneurial achievements that will reflect the impact of Airtel’s products, services and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in people’s lives. Since inception Airtelhas directly and indirectly touched lives and continues to help create jobs and wealth for Zambians.
The grand prize will be an all-expenses paid attachment for three months with a world renowned media organisation.
Ms Lumpa said “as we celebrate 50 years of independence, our Golden Jubilee, we should not only recall the important role that our forefathers played to bring us freedom, we should also honour them through working hard to bring about widespread economic independence. As Airtel we feel these Awards are our way of sharing how well the people of Zambia have embraced technology to improve their businesses, personal lives and social standing.”
