PSV drivers found wanting will undergo re-examination – RTSA

—— Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Public Relations Senior Manager, Mercy Mwila says her organisation will start re-examining all Public Service Vehicles (PSV) drivers that flout road traffic regulations.

Ms Mwila said RTSA has observed the level of incompetence among PSV drivers which was worrying as it is one of the major causes of road traffic accidents in the country.

She said the re-examination of drivers contravening road traffic rules is underpinned by section 68.(1) (a) and (b) of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002 which states that the Director may revoke a licence or an endorsement authorising the holder of a license or endorsement to drive a public service vehicle if the conduct or character of the holder is rendered unfit to drive the vehicle for the safety of the public.

She further said a fresh driving test will be ordered by a Driving Examiner in the case of any holder of a driving licence who appears to be deficient in driving ability hence posing as a source of danger to the public.

Ms Mwila said the licence holders who will fail to pass such tests will have their licences revoked.
