– Government has assured residents of Mkushi district
that the approved Link Zambia 8000 road construction project for the district is due
to commence soon.
Mkushi District Commissioner, Christopher Chibuye disclosed this during a Link Zambia 8000
stakeholders’ consultative meeting at Mkushi Council Chamber today.
MrChibuye said government has indicated its commitment towards the quick commencement of theproject through the outreach consultative platform that brought together Mkushi stakeholders and Consultants from the project.
He said that this consultative forum was of great significance as the project had adopted roads that are crucial to the development of both Mkushi and Luano districts.
He implored residents to appreciate the move, explaining that government’s objective to
consider Mkushi and Luano roads under the Link Zambia 8000 project was aimed at accelerating development.
During the same forum, Link Zambia 8000 Project Consultant, Ronald Nyangu explained that four major roads covering 306km would be upgraded to bituminous standard under the
first phase of this project.
Mr Nyangu outlined the roads as the Kabwe—Old Mkushi, Chiponya-Masansa, Mpula—Masansa as well as the Chengelo road.
He said that the bituminous road project also included 12.3km of urban road network would be worked on in Mkushi township areas.
He pointed out that the essence of the stakeholder consultative forum was aimed at incorporating various contributions that may arise from local stakeholders.
Mr Nyangu said that the Link Zambia road project was placing much value on concerns presented by local stakeholders such as social-economical, environmental as well as cultural.
He however mentioned that the feasibility and consultative activities for the project were
likely to end mid this year and that the actual construction works had been projected to commence in the last quarter of this year.
Meanwhile, Mkushi North Member of Parliament Ingrid Mpande said the PFgovernment deserved to be commended for working towards fulfilling its pre-election campaign pledge.
Mrs Mpande said that the PF had pledged to implement the adopted roads in Mkushi
district, saying that the ruling party had envisioned roads as being cardinal to the development of Mkushi.
She said that in view of this, there was need for residents to acknowledge the positive
aspect that would be expected from the Link Zambia 8000 road projects in the district.
