THE Japanese government says it has provided about US$2.1 billion towards infrastructure development and agriculture in Zambia.
Part of the funds have been channelled towards construction of water supply facilities, hospitals, and schools.
Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Koishi Koinuma says Japan will continue to support Zambia in various projects.
Mr Koinuma was speaking during the Zambia-Japan trade and investment promotion forum in Lusaka yesterday.
He reiterated Japan’s commitment to promoting trade and investment in Zambia through the existence of Japanese companies to ensure economic development in the country.
Meanwhile, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Emmanuel Chenda said Government will continue to implement business-friendly reforms through the private sector development reforms to attract local and foreign investors.
Mr Chenda said Zambia has continued to be one of the countries in sub-Saharan Africa with a good investment environment.
“Promoting a friendly business environment coupled with preferential market access through the tripartite window which has a combined population of over 600 million and a combined gross domestic product of US$1.3 trillion presents huge markets for Zambia’s products,” he said.
