Alleged practices of corruption have emerged over interviews for applicants that want to contest the Kasenengwa parliamentary by-election on the PF, Patriotic Front Party
seat.
One of the applicants, Charles Banda says that some of the applicants
have been giving out money to interviewers so that they can be
adopted.
Mr. Banda further charged that there were deliberate attempts to eliminate him from the race during the recently.
He said that he could not understand why he was not among the three shortlisted applicants despite having come out second at constituency level and first at district level.
ZANIS reports that the concerned voter said this in an interview in Chipata today.
But PF Provincial Vice Chairperson, Chishala Chilufya has dismissed all the allegations stating that the interview process from constituency to provincial level was transparent.
Speaking in a separate interview in Chipata, today, Mr. Chilufya said that all the interviewers were above corruption.
He explained that despite the outcome of the interviews, all the six names of the applicants will be submitted to the PF, National Central Committee, who will make a final decision on which applicant should contest the seat.
Meanwhile The Patriotic Front PF Party in Eastern Province has welcomed the decision by the ECZ, Electoral Commission of Zambia to postponement the date for the Kasenengwa parliamentary by-election.
Provincial Chairperson, Lameck Mangani says that it is important for ECZ to allow the Supreme Court exhaust the matter, where the PF wants former Member of Parliament, Victoria Kalima not to re-contest the seat.
Yesterday, the ECZ announced that it has postponed the Kasenengwa, Mkushi South and Solwezi Central constituencies’ by-elections in view of litigation, which is before the courts affecting the three constituencies.
By-elections in the three constituencies were supposed to take place on February 25.
