—– Isoka District Community Development Mother and Child Health office in Muchinga province says it has a huge debt that it owes to some members of staff and suppliers.
Acting District Community Medical Officer John Masina disclosed this during a meeting with the area Member of Parliament Malozo Sichone in Isoka today.
Dr Masina said his department has been in a financial doldrums since the separation of Mafinga and Isoka districts.
Dr Masina explained that the office fails to meet the running costs due to limited funds allocated to the district.
He explained that Isoka was allocated K120,000 in 2013 which was shared between the two districts (Mafinga and Isoka itself).
Dr Masina also said the grounding to a halt of the three utility vehicles is attributed to lack of funds to repair them hence the dependence on the un road worthy marut car which is currently being used as an ambulance to carry the sick to the hospital
And Area Member of Parliament Malozo Sichone has encouraged members of staff at the health institution to continue with the spirit of hard.
Mr Malozo said health is key as such the PF government has placed the health sector first as exhibited by his constituency that is to benefit from the government programme of construction of new health posts.
He revealed that his constituency will have seven (7) news health post in 2014 budget and that he will continue using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to construct mothers shelters in the areas where the facility is missing.
The Member of Parliament has however, expressed concern on the state of equipment and the design of Isoka New hospital.
He learnt that the hospital does not have trolleys to use for emergencies and patients are just lifted on hands.
And on drugs, Mr Sichone advised the health personnel to ensure that they do not let the medicines expire.
Mr Sichone is in his constituency to check on developmental projects.
