–Government through the Ministry of Community Development has empowered Zwelopili Women Group of Muoyo in Nalolo district with a cheque of K9, 500.
Nalolo District Assistant Community Development Officer Kakoma Mulyata said the purpose of the cheque is to alleviate poverty by assisting the women start small businesses that will generate income.
Mr Mulyata advised the 15 beneficiaries to use the money for the purpose they applied for and share it equally so as to benefit everyone in the group.
He said the Department of Community Development will closely monitor the group to ensure that the funds are not mismanaged.
And witnessing the occasion, Nalolo District Administration Officer Kenny Mungendenge said government will work with the department of Community Development in monitoring the projects that the group will undertake.
He called on the group to set a good example to others by not misusing the funds.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Zwelopili Women Group Treasurer Kaiko Mutukwa thanked the department of Community Development and promised to work extra hard and produce results that will be seen by many.
Ms Mutukwa also said the group will always consult the department in case they face challenges as they embark on their project.
Zwelopili Women Group intends to buy fishing nets and start a fish business once the fish ban is lifted and also revolve the fund so that the community benefits as well.
