Livingstone and Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe will jointly host the coveted tourism conference from August 24 to 29, 2013, the first to be held in southern Africa.
Ms Masebo said the peaceful elections in Zimbabwe will complement the successful hosting of the UNWTO general assembly.
“Preparations for the general assembly have been smooth and we are ready to receive our visitors in a clean, friendly and peaceful environment,” she said.
The minister said this in Livingstone on Friday during a UNWTO general assembly inter-denominational prayer meeting organised by the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) at the Livingstone civic centre.
The CCZ has been conducting prayer meetings for a successful hosting of the prestigious event, which is expected to be attended by over 4,000 delegates.
Ms Masebo said the country’s hosting of the 20th session of the UNWTO general assembly is a “blessing and favour from God”.
“We’re very happy that our sister country (Zimbabwe) went into an election which was very peaceful…. we never heard of anybody being killed, which was very good for preparations to co-host the UNWTO general assembly, ” she said.
And Livingstone United Church of Zambia (UCZ) reverend Jane Kaluba said the church will continue to pray for the successful hosting of the UNWTO general assembly.
During the sermon, Reverend Kaluba said the church hopes the aftermath of the general assembly will help to improve the economy.
“The UNWTO general assembly will move our economic status to greater heights…Livingstone has already changed, the infrastructure is better and the city is clean,” she said.
Rev Kaluba said the general assembly is a platform to change not only the economic status of the country but hopefully the continent as a whole.
“Another country could have been chosen to host this event but Zambia and Zimbabwe were favoured to do so,” she said.
