Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba says adequate security measures have been put in place ahead of the United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) general assembly later this month.

Speaking to Qfm in an interview, Mr. Mwamba says his ministry in collaboration with the ministry of home affairs is doing everything to make sure that delegates who will be coming to attend the international conference and Zambians at large are provided with security.

He says border security has been strengthened to prevent criminals who would want to take advantage of the international event from sneaking into the country.

Mr Mwamba says Zambia is one of the peaceful countries in Africa and that Zambians should prove this to the people who will be attending the UNWTO general assembly.

The Defence Minister states that it would be embarrassing and a dent to the country’s image if cases of violence and other criminal activities occurred in the host city of Livingstone during the general assembly.

He adds that the beefed up security in the border areas will remain in place even after the UNWTO general assembly.

Mr. Mwamba has further assured Zambians of a peaceful and successful UNWTO general assembly.
