CARITAS nods subsidy removal

Kasama, June, 26/2013. ZANIS–; Kasama Archdiocese Caritas Director George Musaba has asked Government to equitably distribute the savings from the removal of subsidies to all sectors of economy.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kasama today, Fr. Musaba said the removal of subsidies on maize, fuel and fertilizer was long over-due.

He urged Government make sure that the savings from the subsidies benefit the poor people in the country.

He said it was important that people in rural areas receive a share of the development process that is currently taking place in the nation.

Fr. Musaba observed that fuel subsidy was only benefiting the rich people who have vehicles at the poor majority in society.

Meanwhile, Fr. Musaba has appealed to Government to make sure that the new Republican constitution is enacted in accordance with people’s expectations.

He noted that it was prudent that the final draft constitution is published before the end of this year end.

Fr. Musaba noted that a durable constitution is vital in fostering national development.
