Government has begun its deployment of Senior personnel for the District Health Management Team (DHMT) of the newly created Luano district.
Mkushi District Commissioner, Christopher Chibuye confirmed the development to ZANIS over the weekend when he accompanied the newly deployed Luano DHMT Officers on a familiarization tour of Luano district.
Mr Chibuye affirmed that government was eager to see that the health services are consolidated in the newly created district, adding that the deployment of personnel was a clear intent of this objective.
He disclosed that the Luano DHMT offices would be located at Old Mkushi, adding that the place was identified as the Boma for the new district during the Boundary Consultative Forum early this year.
He noted that inadequate infrastructure was amongst the major challenges facing the new district, adding that plans were underway to construct some temporal pre-fabric structures to expand the DHMT offices.
Mr Chibuye introduced Luano District Medical Officer (DMO) Sylvester Kasonde to the Chiefs of Luano district and also accompanied the 7 newly deployed Health Management Staff to visit several health centers.
When talked to, Dr Kasonde observed that the terrain of the valley parts of Luano district posed a difficult challenge but was quick to state that the newly deployed team was eager to serve the people in that district.
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Mboroma urged the newly deployed health staff to be determined in discharging their duties.
Senior Chief Mboroma said this when Mkushi District Commissioner, Dr Kasonde and the other newly deployed health personnel paid a courtesy call at Mboroma Palace over the weekend.
Senior Chief Mboroma commended government for quickly backing up the declaration of Luano district with deeds such as the deployment of health personnel.
In a related contribution, Chief Mboshya saluted government for the move and expressed his willingness to work with the new health workers.
Chief Mboshya however appealed to government to seriously consider resuming the Zambia Flying Doctor Services to his chiefdom, saying that the services were still needed there.
He mentioned that it was saddening to note that the Flying Doctor Services had been discontinued after one of its officers was believed to have been killed in Chief Chembe’s area by fugitive suspects known as the Mailoni Brothers.
Over the weekend, n Saturday and Sunday, Mkushi District commissioner in the company of C Christopher Chibuye accompanied Luano Dr Sylvester Kasonde who is the DMO as well as 6 other newly deployed health management personnel toured Luano’s health centers and paid courtesy calls on Chiefs of the district.
