The Zambia National Soccer Team has beaten Lesotho by four goals to nil in the crucial World Cup qualifier match at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium this afternoon.
The Chipolopolo Boys scored the first two goals in the first half and the last two in the second half to beat the Crocodiles.
Chipolopolo’s Jacob Mulenga opened fire and scored the first goal in the 36th minute followed by team Captain, Christopher Katongo, who scored in the 61st.
Dutch-based striker Jacob Mulenga of FC Utrecht netted the third goal in the 64th minute and striker, Collins Mbesuma, closed the score-line in the 83rd minute before the four-minute extra time awarded to end the match.
The journey is on for Zambia as the Chipolopolo Boys need to score more goals in next week’s encounter against Sudan.
Zambia hosted Lesotho and redeemed themselves and put their 2014 World Cup qualifying race back on track.
“It’s a huge step for Zambia. Our Boys need to score more goals when we meet Sudan next week,” said one elated Chipoloplo fan, Menyani Zulu, who called ZANIS Sports News in Lusaka today.
In a telephone interview with ZANIS Sports in Lusaka, Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZSFA) Patron, Peter Makembo, thanked the business community for facilitating the live coverage of the game for the majority Zambians who will not be at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
Makembo said he was true to his word when he predicted that Zambia will beat Lesotho by a large margin in today’s crucial Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifying game at the Stadium.
Herve Renard’s side conceded a late equalizer in the first leg in Maseru on March 24 to finish 1-1.
Today’s victory saw Zambia’s lead cut made amends at home from three to one point in Group D ahead of second placed Ghana and Sudan on seven and six points respectively after three rounds of games played so far.
Victory at home in Ndola where Zambia is unbeaten in over 40 years will keep Chipolopolo at the summit of Group D ahead of the grudge match against Sudan at the same venue on June 15.

Meanwhile, the stadium was characterized with dances as chanting Chipolopolo fans, clad in Zambian flag regalia, chanted slogans to beef up the triumph.
Copperbelt Police also sealed the Ndola stadia to respond to security concerns.
The Copperbelt Police Chief Mary Tembo urged soccer fans to celebrate the win in peace and desist from engaging in activities that would breach the public peace.
