NEWLY elected Lusaka mayor, Miles Sampa has pledged to offer his five months’ salary to the church.

Speaking when he attended his first church service as city mayor at Matero Parish in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Sampa said as a native of the area, he grew up as a believer at Matero Parish where his late father and his ailing mother had congregated.

“I was a Mass server here at St Mary’s Parish over 35 years ago, with my mother as a member of the action group and even my father died as a member of this community,” Mr Sampa said.

And Mass celebrant, Father Laston Lupupa advised Mr Sampa and all those in political office to work for the benefit of all Zambians regardless of political affiliation.

Father Lupupa said leaders were chosen by God who must choose to love God and all the people they served.

“To our mayor-elect, Mr Sampa, you should seek God’s guidance, ask for His presence in your life to help you see with His eyes, to hear with His ears, and feel the problems of the people with special attention.

“Make your story a successful one as mayor of Lusaka by allowing God to lead you to His people who need to be served. Ask God to tell you who you are and who to work for, so that the people can see God’s presence in your works,” he said.
