SPORTS minister Chishimba Kambwili says he cannot intervene in the three months suspension slapped on Zanaco coach Keagan Mumba because FAZ has the mandate to run football in the country.
Asked if he was considering intervening in the matter following widespread criticism on FAZ, Kambwili said he could not comment on the matter because it was still in the hands of the association.
Kambwili said he could only intervene or comment on the matter as a last resort if Zanaco still felt aggrieved after exhausting all channels.
“FAZ has the mandate to run football in the country. They make decisions based on their rules. So I can’t comment on that matter,” Kambwili said.
“I can only come in as a last appeal if Zanaco exhaust all channels. As at now they haven’t approached me. So I can’t intervene.” Zanaco coach Keagan Mumba was handed a three months suspension and has
been told not take part in any football related activities during the suspension. The suspension also blocks Mumba from watching any football matches until after his suspension.
The 2012 and 2011 coach of the year was handed the heavy suspension for openly criticizing FAZ’s nationwide player selection without involving local coaches.
Despite Mumba issuing a public apology and appealing against the suspension, FAZ upheld their decision.
Mumba has already missed two matches with his team, a 2-1 defeat against league leaders Nkana and a 1-1 draw against Napsa Stars.
Zanaco who are currently fifth on the table will face Nchanga Rangers at Sunset stadium Today, May 24th.
