Vice President Guy Scott’s wife, Charlotte, is in Malawi as a visiting Fellow of the Institute of Development Studies where she will also interview President Joyce Banda on the Millenium Development Goals.
As part of her visit to that country, Mrs Scott today (May 21st) laid a wreath on the tomb of Malawian founding president Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
Mrs. Scott, who arrived in Lilongwe yesterday(may 20th), also visited the War Memorial Tower, a cultural landmark where fallen heroes who fought in the First and Second World Wars and the struggle for Malawi’s independence are remembered.
Mrs. Scott was accompanied by Zambia’s Envoy to Malawi Billy Munyumbwe, staff at the mission and senior government officials.
This is contained in a press statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today by First Secretary at the Zambian Embassy in Lilongwe, Chansa Kabwela.
Mrs. Scott’s visit to Dr. Banda’s Mausoleum comes barely a week after Malawi commemorated Kamuzu Day which falls annually on May 14.
The day has been set aside to celebrate the life of that country’s founding father who ruled for 31 years and died on November 25, 1997.
She later graced the official launch by President Joyce Banda of a maternity waiting home in Dowa District, 70 kilometres from the capital city, Lilongwe.
Mrs. Scott is a visiting Fellow of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) of the University of Sussex.
The interview with that country’s Head of State will be published in the September 2013 issue of the IDS bulletin and will consist of other papers from other influential people from Africa, Asia and Latin America with focus on the MDGs and what happens after 2015 the target date for meeting the eight goals.
ZANIS reports that Mrs. Scott, who is co-editor of the Bulletin publication, is being timed for release prior to this year’s United Nations General Assembly and will be launched at the House of Lords in London.
