THE arrest of Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela on corruption charges has exonerated critics of President Edgar Lungu that he protects the corrupt, the PF in Kasama has said.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday afternoon swung into action and arrested Mr. Chitotela and charged him with two counts of concealing property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
In the first count, it is alleged that on unknown dates but between the July, 2016 and October 2018 in Lusaka district, Mr Chitotela did conceal a property namely plot number 148 of farm 50A situated in Makeni, Lusaka.
The property was disguised in the names of Diris Mukange property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.

In the second count, it is alleged that on dates unknown but between the July, 2016 and October 2018, the Minister did conceal a property namely the remaining extent of Subdivision A of lot 22183/M situated in Ibex Hill Lusaka.
The ACC said the property was also disguised in the name of Diris Mukange property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime, leading to the arrest of Mr. Chitotela who was however, bonded immediately. But speaking to the Daily Nation yesterday, Kasama district PF youth vice chairperson Aaron Zimba said the arrest of Mr. Chitotela had shamed critics who were always accusing President Lungu of protecting those in power who were involved in the scourge.

Mr. Zimba said for a long time now, President Lungu had been accused of not putting much effort in the fight against corruption and that he was defending corrupt elements within his rank and file but that the Chitotela saga had exonerate him.
“The opposition must be ashamed of itself. It has been accusing President Lungu of not being serious about the fight against corruption but what are they saying now that his own Cabinet minister has been arrested? If what they were saying was true, wouldn’t the President protect Mr. Chitotela?” Mr. Zimba asked.
