Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has assured President Edgar Lungu that police will stop gangsterism in Kitwe.
President Lungu yesterday directed police to decisively deal with gangs terrorising residents in Kitwe.
Mr Kanganja said he has received the command and his officers are already making headway.
“We appreciate the principal’s concern [President Lungu]. As police, we have so far arrested 11 criminals in Kitwe. We are on top of things,” Mr Kanganja said.
Mr Kanganja said the police will fulfil its mandate of making sure that internal security is guaranteed for smooth operations of business activities
DAILY MAIL
Mr. IG don’t just pay lip service to the problem at hand.Surely did you have to wait for a directive from the head of state for you to take action? There is too much lawlessness in the compounds in Kitwe perpetrated by these groups. All these young thugs are well known in the townships and so are there parents aware but, people are scared to report them because even if you did only a few days you will find them out of Police cells or hands. Look at Bulangililo, Chimwemwe, Chimwemwe east, Kwacha, Kamitondo, Buchi, Wusakile, Mulenga compounds just to mention a few. It’s like they have taken over these compounds. In bus stations it is even worse, ask the bus conductors they will tell you what they go through on a daily basis.
Please sir, engage the Police in plain clothes to patrol and mingle with society and believe you me the number that will be flushed out. You will also be surprised at there age group.
