Mumamba Numba has disclosed that Zanaco are resigned to a second place finish in the 2015 Faz Super League season.
Zanaco on Sunday squandered an opportunity of picking up silverware this season when they were booted out of the Barclays Cup semifinals by Nkwazi 5-3 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw at full-time at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
This has left second placed Zanaco with only a realistic chance of representing Zambia in the 2016 Caf Confederation Cup should they finish in the number two slot with three games left to play.
“We just have to work hard and try and consolidate our position on the log,” Numba said.
“I think it is a sad situation on our part especially that we really wanted to win this Cup.
“It has happened and accept it and we are moving forward.”
Zanaco have 54 points with three games left but cannot usurp leaders Zesco United who are on 63 points and a very healthy goal difference.
“We still have a chance to play continental football and all we need to do is to win our remaining games so that we maintain our second position on the log,” Numba said.
“As it is now, Zesco need a draw now. They cannot lose all their remaining three games. I think that is an impossibility.”
