HE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has intensified road patrols and apprehended 50 unlicensed drivers inLusaka in efforts to restore safety on the roads and safeguard lives.
RTSA information officer, Fred Mubanga said unlicensed drivers have contributed to the increase in road carnage and warned that such drivers face punitive action.
Mr Mubanga said in an interview yesterday that there will be more motorised patrols on the roads, especially on the Great North Road, as RTSA seeks to be in tandem with the United Nations decade of action for road safety which aims to reduce accidents by 50 percent by 2020.
He also warned that the agency will intensify screening processes on the roads for common traffic offences such as drink-driving and over-speeding.
