—The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Mitete District says the distribution of farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for 2014/15 farming season is going on well.
Mitete District Marketing and Development Officer, Harrison Kusupeka, told ZANIS in an interview that a good number of the allocated inputs which were received in October had been paid for and distributed to most farmers in various cooperatives since November.
Mr Kusupeka disclosed that among the inputs that were received include 400 x 10kg packs of maize seed of which 336 packs have been distributed and 100 x 5kg packs of sorghum seed of which 19 packs have already been given to farmers.
He added that 120 x 5kg packs of rice seed were also received of which 30 have been sold and 650 packs of D Compound which has since been distributed.
Mr Kusupeka further said only two cooperatives in the district, namely Mitete and Lutembwe Cooperatives, had not yet received their consignment due to bad terrain.
The District Marketing and Development Officer added that farmers in the district have thanked Government for the early distribution although they have delayed in planting due to poor rainfall.
