ZEC warns against careless speech

The Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) has appealed to political leaders to be prudent in their speech to avoid heightening the levels of tension in the country.

ZEC secretary general Cleophas Lungu said any attempts to gain political mileage were surely ill-timed, unZambian and unChristian.

Fr. Lungu said in a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today that Zambians should be sensitive to the needs and feelings of the bereaved family.

And Fr. Lungu has appealed to Zambians to remain calm, respectful and peaceful as the nation continues to mourn the late President Michael Sata.

He said the nation should maintain calmness as it prepares to give President Sata a dignified send off.

Fr. Lungu expressed hope that as a peace loving and God fearing people, Zambians shall endeavor to avoid any acts of violence and politicking during the mourning period.

President Sata died last week on Tuesday in London where he was receiving medical treatment.
