—Kawambwa District Council has banned agricultural activities in the township.
Council Secretary, Jovax Ngoma issued the warning in a public notice released to the general public dated October 8, 2014.
The notice warns residents in the area not to grow crops in their surroundings this farming season.
Mr Ngoma said agricultural activities in the township were against the Public Health Section ACT CAP 295 Section 67 of the Laws of Zambia.
He said all those in a habit of growing crops such as maize, sorghum and finger millet among others in township residential areas should not do so this farming season, adding that those that would not adhere would do so at their own risk.
The Council Secretary said individuals who choose not to comply with the directive will have their crops slashed.
Mr Ngoma noted that the practice of growing crops frustrates the ‘Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign’ hence the warning to all the residents to take the warning seriously as the local authority will slash their crops.
