Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Minister Yamfwa Mukanga has called on motorists to be prepared for the introduction of tollgates.
Mr Mukanga said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday that the installation of toll gates across the country will commence in September this year.
He said the first places to have tollgates will be along the line of rail, the Great East Road and the Great North road as these are the busiest roads in the country.
Mr Mukanga said toll gates will help government to collect revenue which will be used for the maintenance of roads in the country as government will no longer have to spend huge sums of money on roads.
He said this will enable government undertake other development projects in the country that will improve the living standards of the people.
Mr Mukanga said all motorists will be required to pay a fee for the use of the road which will depend on the type of vehicle.
The Minister said road development is the backbone of national development and the vision of government is to see to it that the country has good quality roads.
Mr Mukanga has since urged the Road Development Agency (RDA) to work with the government to see to it that the introduction of toll gates yield the desired results.
