Northern Province Cooperative and Marketing Union has rejected government plans to reintroduce grain levy.
Provincial Vice Chairperson Obbed Kampamba observed that the move will just add to the numerous challenges farmers are facing such as long distance to satellite depots, delayed payments by the Food Reserve Agency among others.
Mr. Kampamba added that the move will push the cost of production further.
Mr. Kampamba has since called on government to find means and ways of making councils survive on their own instead of relying on grain levy.
