Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has approved 53 projects for development across the country.
ZEMA Principal Information and Communication Officer Irene Lungu Chipili disclosed the development and added that one project was rejected for failing to meet environmental assessment guidelines.
This is according to the statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today.
Ms Chipili said the projects that have been approved under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) include prospecting mine areas, Manufacturing and Processing Industries as well as Agriculture and Fisheries projects.
Ms Chipili said that other projects are in the energy and transport sectors.
She said implementation on the approved projects has to start within three years stating that if a developer fails to comply with the laid down conditions ZEMA can revoke the approval.
She has reminded industries of their corporate and social responsibilities of ensuring that environmental concerns are fully incorporated into their overall operational regimes.
