Govt. calls for improved work culture
Mporokoso, March 25, 2014, ZANIS — Government has advised civil servants in Northern Province to be proactive and change their laizzer affair attitude towards work.
Northern Province minister Freedom Sikazwe says the mentality some civil servants in the province were exhibiting towards work in the province was worrying.
The minister said this recently in Kaputa when he addressed members of the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) following the recent floods in the district.
He said a lot of common effort from all sectors was needed if the country was to develop.
”If you look at most of the countries that have developed you will find that their civil service is effective and efficient because the civil service is the engine of any government,” he said.
Mr. Sikazwe said civil servants were supposed to be technocrats who politicians must depend on for advice on matters of developing the country.
”This poor attitude towards work especially in times of emergencies is worrying,” he said.
