Operation Young Vote (OYV) says the commemoration of youth day slated for 12th March will be meaningless because the process of coming up with a constitution that would inspire and empower youths has been hijacked.
Executive Director Guess Nyirenda adds that the failure by Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili to deliver an empowerment and employment strategy document for the youth as directed by President Michael Sata on 12th March 2012 is another de-motivating factor for youth participation in this year’s commemoration.
He says the said document is meant to help youths in the country come out of the doldrums of poverty as well as champion their destiny.
He adds that another issue of concern to the youths in the country is the lack of transparency in accessing the Youth Empowerment Fund.
Mr Nyirenda has told Qfm News in a telephone interview that it is worrying to note that 41 youth associations obtain funds from the Youth Empowerment Fund fraudulently as revealed by the 2012 Auditor General’s report.
