Zambia Center for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) has today launched a political party compendium on the constitution.
Speaking during the launch in Lusaka today, ZCID board Chairman Winstone Chibwe says the event marks the end of a long process of interparty consultations and discussions around the contents of the draft constitution.
Mr.Chibwe notes that the Zambian people have been consistent in their demand for a good constitution but all efforts have failed due to lack of consultation.
He says in the past several months, the ZCID facilitated a consultation process which culminated into the development of cross- party popular positions on the constitution.
Mr. Chibwe adds that this means that the compendium will provide a basis for peaceful interparty engagement now and in future so as to achieve violence free, development oriented political process in Zambia.
Meanwhile a senior lecturer at University of Zambia in the school of Development Studies Francis Chigunta has observed the need for a clear plan of action on the constitution.
Dr. Chigunta says for any programme to be successfully implemented there must be a realistic and acceptable plan of action to define the necessary strategies for the execution of the programme.
