The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) says government’s decision to impose a two year wage freeze in the public service without any regard to the ever increasing cost of living and escalating prices of essential goods and services is insensitive.
In his letter dated 5th November addressed to Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda, FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says government should rescind the decision to impose a wage freeze.
Mr Mwanza notes the move by government is likely to further demotivate the majority of civil servants.
Mr. Mwanza points out that the majority of civil servants did not get 100 percent salary increments as government had earlier promised them.
He wonders what relevance negotiations for salaries and conditions of service between government and the labour unions will have when government has imposed a wage freeze.
