Resuscitate local industries, government urged
Solwezi, July 11, ZANIS —-A Solwezi cleric is appealing to government to come up with a deliberate policy to resuscitate and grow the manufacturing industry in the country.
Rev. Dr Tom Mushinge of Springs of Worship Ministries in Solwezi told Zambia News and Information Services in Solwezi that the Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry should come up with a deliberate policy to grow the manufacturing industry so that things that can be manufactured locally are not imported into the country.
Rev. Dr Mushinge said there are many things that are imported by the mines such as baskets for caterpillars and shovels that can be manufactured in the country.
He said the revival of the manufacturing industry will enhance job creation for the majority unemployed in the country and thereby conform to the ruling Patriotic Front’s manifesto.
“With all that money used to import these things that can be manufactured locally, we would create a lot of employment for our people”, Rev. Dr Mushinge said.
He said even the country can realized a lot of money as importers of finished products that can be manufactured locally will be buying them within the country.
Rev. Dr Mushinge said as the situation stands now it’s the importers of such finished products who are benefiting at the expense of the country.
