Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe has called on Zambians to embrace a ‘one Zambia! one nation’ motto in order to promote unity and development in the country.

Mr. Munkombwe said it was regrettable that some politicians in Zambia were busy preaching tribalism instead of working together for the good of the country.

The veteran politician was speaking yesterday during a Tonga programme to commemorate the Heroes and Unity day cerebrations on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).

He said people and politicians championing tribalism should not be supported in Zambia because during the freedom struggle, Zambians worked as one to liberate the country from colonial masters.

He said government was eager to develop Zambia hence people should support President Michael Sata and his Patriotic Front (PF) administration in order to grow the economy of the country.

Mr. Munkombwe said developmental programmes which are taking place in the country were good for the people because they will uplift their living standards.

He advised Zambians to be patient with the PF government saying development was a gradual process which takes a long time to be realized and felt by the ordinary people.

“People should learn to be patient with the government of the day. Development is a gradual process which does not happen overnight,” Mr. Munkombwe said.

And Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi said no tribe was more superior over other in Zambia.

Mr. Chipenzi pointed out that all tribes were equal in the eyes of God and therefore, Zambians should regard every ethnic grouping as such.

He said Zambia now has 73 tribes which he said should work together in order to develop the country.
