Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Chinga Miyutu has castigated people discouraging youths from applying for the youth empowerment funds.
Addressing scores of people at Kanchumwa basic school in Kalabo, Mr. Miyutu advised youths to ignore people who are discouraging them from accessing government youth loans.
Mr. Miyutu, who is also Kalabo United Party for National Development (UPND) Member of Parliament, disclosed during a public meeting that the youth development fund was aimed at empowering young people with funds to finance their businesses.
He further explained that government targeted the youths simply because they were the majority of the people who are unemployed in the country.
The Deputy Minister said government realised that it could not employ all the youths hence it opted to empower them with loans to set up their own businesses.
Mr. Miyutu stressed that the youths have the capacity to contribute to the development of the economy hence the decision by the government to increase the allocation of youth development funds.
He urged the youth not to listen to persons who have failed in life but rather work with government in bettering their living standards.
Meanwhile, Mr. Miyutu has cautioned the youths against misusing the youth development funds once they access it.
He implored the youths to manage the loan facility prudently and also employ other youths.
The Deputy Minister expressed optimism that unemployment rate among the youth will reduce if only young people applied and accessed the youth development funds.
