Chadiza health staff caned
Chadiza, June 13, 2013, ZANIS…….. Chadiza district communitymedical
officer Geoffrey Lingenda has defended personnel at the newly opened
district hospital over allegations that they were mistreating
patients.
Dr Lingenda disclosed that in most cases the medical staff worked for
longer hours, even losing their resting time just to ensure that they
helped as many people as possible.
He said it becomes difficult in most cases for his office to comment
or act on certain concerns from the public when specific cases were
not cited.
He said those accusing personnel at the district hospital of using
abusive language and also mistreating patients should come out in the
open and report to his office rather than rushing to the chief and the
media.
Dr Lingenda said as far as he was concerned medical personnel at the
newly opened facility were under staffed and worked long hours
and all they needed from the community was encouragement and support
and not the other way round.
Last Saturday, Chief Zingalume of the Chewa people in Chadiza district
told off Medical staff in Chadiza to start treating patients with
respect and honour.
Chief Zingalume made the accusation when he addressed thousands of mourners who
gathered at the funeral of Chadiza district coordinator for Catholic Peace for Justice and
Development, Andrew Simoya.
The traditional leader said he had received several complaints about
the use of bad language and poor treatment the patients received at the newly
opened district hospital.
The Chief said people did not need to be known for them to be given
the best service but that all patients should get the
best attention .
