Gender economic empowerment may need additional funds

Gender and Child Development Minister Inonge Wina says the 12 billion kwacha allocated to her ministry to address issues of gender development economic empowerment may require an additional of the resources.

This is in order to undertake the mission of gender development activities in the country.

Relating to the Patriotic Front Manifesto, Mrs Wina said the document provides for a roadmap on empowering youths and women in order for the said groups to contribute to national development.

ZANIS reports that the Minister said this yesterday when she visited Kotecha Continental Engineering Company in Gujarat which is situated in the west coast of India.

According to Mrs Wina, visiting the Continental Engineering Company was important as government is responding to the needs of youths in the country who want to start their own businesses.

“This is the beginning of such initiative because here they have an incubator to undertake the training, “she observed.

And Kotecha Continental Engineering Company Director Aamir Hasan said his interaction with the minister is a beginning of enhancing and promoting partnership in development for the young entrepreneurs between the two countries.

Kotecha Continental Engineering Company is a joint venture of continental engineering trading companies specializing in manufacturing agro equipment in India.

The company, which was has been in existence for the last 10 years, has employed over 100 workers.

In Africa, Kotecha Continental Engineering Company is present in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Mozambique and Nigeria.

The company also intends to establish its operations in Zambia.

Gujarat is bounded by the Arabian Sea in the west, Pakistan and Rajasthan in the north and north-east, respectively.
