–The Livingstone Press club
has condemned the physical and verbal harassment of journalists by opposition
UPND cadres in Lusaka yesterday at the party secretariat.
Club President Brain Hatyoka said there is need for political party cardres to air
their views through the right channels as opposed to intimidating or harassing
journalists.
He said such actions by cadres should stop and that instead they should seek dialogue
if they feel aggrieved over a matter instead of intimidating journalists.
Mr Hatyoka was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Livingstone today noting
that journalists need to work without intimidation and that it is
wrong for cadres to assume journalist are biased when they are not the final publishers of the stories.
“We condemn such behavior as a press club as it is not good to harass people whose duty is to inform the nation. Journalists need time to work free from intimidation”, said Mr Hatyoka.
Journalists from various media organizations were harassed by UPND carders at their party secretariat in Lusaka yesterday during a press briefing held by president Hakainde Hichilema.
