Property worth millions of Kwacha has being lost after a fire gutted a house belonging to Mrs. Christine Sikanika of house number 47/28 Lilayi along Chipwenupwenu road in Lusaka.
Mrs. Sikanika said the fire started around 19:00 hours yesterday after a power outage that lasted between five and ten minutes.
She said when power was restored, she saw smoke in the ceiling board and within a short while the whole house was engulfed in fire.
She explained that the fire spread so fast that even when the fire brigade responded quickly, there was little that fire fighters could do to save the property.
Mrs. Sikanika, a retired officer in the Ministry of Agriculture, attributed the accident to the rampant electricity outages the area is currently experiencing.
Meanwhile, ZESCO Division Officer Mathew Ngoma, who was found at the scene of the accident, confirmed receiving the report of house being gutted.
Mr. Ngoma said his team was on the ground assessing the situation to ascertain the cause of the infernal.
He stated that a comprehensive report will be issued after investigations on the matter are concluded.
He said the power utility company was trying its best to service its customers adding that such an event is sad.
