An American based hunger relief organisation known as ‘Stop Hunger Now’ has donated birth kits valued at over KR27,200 (US$5,100) and assorted food stuffs that will be distributed to clinics in Bahati constituency of Mansa district.
Receiving the donation in Lusaka today, Bahati Member of Parliament Harry Kalaba said the gesture will help alleviate some of the challenges facing rural clinics in Mansa district.
Mr. Kalaba said many clinics in rural areas were affected by lack of adequate equipment not only in the maternity wards but for the entire operations of the clinics.
He explained that the ‘Stop Hunger Now’ has for a long time been donating food stuffs to the people of Bahati constituency for a long time now.
Mr. Kalaba has since appreciated that the organisation has now extended its donation to maternal care.
And presenting the donation, Stop Hunger Now Coordinator Nina Batista said the birth kits include a receiving blanket, plastic sheeting, blades, soap gloves and umbilical code clips.
Ms. Batista said her organisation has also donated 50 boxes of assorted food stuffs which include rice and soya pieces among others.
