Zambia Information and Communications Technology (ZICTA) has reiterated that mobile phone subscribers who will not register their SIM cards by the deadline of 31st December will have mobile phone services disabled.

Speaking during the Editors media breakfast in Lusaka this morning, ZICTA Director General Margret Mudenda says the first service to be disabled will be the SMS platform before disconnecting other services.

Mrs Mudenda has since implored people who have not yet registered their sim cards to do so to avoid being disconnected.

Meanwhile Mrs Mudenda has reaffirmed ZICTA’s commitment to working closely with the media to enhance the pace of disseminating information across the country.

She says since inception, ZICTA has been bestowed with the responsibility of not only regulating the ICT and Postal sectors but also growing these sectors in addition to protecting the rights and interests of users.

She says it is in this regard that ZICTA realizes that their effort in executing their mandate is void if done without the appropriate tool of communication.

Mrs. Mudenda explains that the media is recognized as a vital tool that plays a pivotal role in disseminating information regarding the ICT and postal sectors.

She has further described 2013 as a great year for the authority.

And Mrs Mudenda says among the projects ZICTA embarked on this include the SIM card registration exercise, the national addressing system and post code project.
