THE manager of Zanaco Bank’s Choma branch was on Friday found dead at his home after concerned workmates alerted police to check on him when he did not answer his phones.

Southern Province police commissioner Godwin Phiri said Obert Siachifuwe, a resident of Riverside area, was living alone.

“The matter was reported to the police on November 6, 2015, and the report we got is that the bank manager for Zanaco, Mr Siachifuwe, was found dead in his house in Riverside here in Choma where he was living alone. The report that came forth was that he did not report for work on the material day, which is unusual of him,” he said. “His colleagues tried to call him but his phones went unanswered so the fellow workers got concerned and reported to the police.”
Phiri said police officers who went to the house forced the door open and found Siachifuwe lying dead on his bed.

He added that Siachifuwe’s body has since been taken to Mazabuka by family members, adding that no foul play was suspected.

And a Zanaco employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Siachifuwe did not show any sign of illness.

“It is saddening, shocking and unexpected because he was not sick. At the moment no one knows what caused his death, so we are just waiting for a postmortem to ascertain the cause of death,” said the source.

On Thursday, Siachifuwe officiated at a one-day workshop attended by over 20 small and medium entrepreneurs to educate them on Zanaco’s Double Beula promotion, which is aimed at empowering them.
