NATIONAL team coach George Lwandamina has recalled Zanaco striker Moses Phiri and two others ahead of Saturday’s 2016 Rwanda African Nations Championship (CHAN) last round return leg against Mozambique.
Lwandamina has also summoned midfielders Mwape Mwelwa of Zesco United and Green Eagles’ Mwila Phiri junior.
He said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the technical bench has decided to reinforce the squad to ensure the Chipolopolo finish off the Mambas.
Zambia bashed Mozambique 3-0 last Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to put one foot at the CHAN finals.
Striker Winston Kalengo, midfielders Conlyde Luchanga and Spencer Sautu each contributed a goal.
Lwandamina said the tie is far from over despite the Chipolopolo carrying a comfortable lead.
He urged the players to put behind last Saturday’s victory.
“We must maximise on what we have already started. We will not relax because our target is to qualify for the CHAN finals,” Lwandamina said.
He said the players will be psyched ahead of the penultimate clash.
“When I talk about preparations, I am also talking about psyching players so that they don’t relax when we go to Mozambique,” Lwandamina said.
Mozambique need to score four unanswered goals to book a ticket to Rwanda.
Zambia’s last appearance at the CHAN finals was in Ivory Coast in 2009, where the then Herve Renard-led Chipolopolo minted bronze.
The Chipolopolo have failed to qualify for the last two editions in Sudan and South Africa while the Mambas made their debut at the 2014 CHAN finals.
