The United Party for National Development UPND has scooped the Solwezi west parliamentary seat.
UPND candidate Teddy Kasonso polled 8, 541 votes beating Martin Mbaya of the PF who got 2, 635 votes.
UNIP candidate John Njombi only managed a paltry 121 votes.
Returning Officer Adriada Daka declared Mr. Kasonso a duly elected Member of Parliament for Solwezi West constituency at 07:30 hours.
Mrs. Daka says that a total of 11,475 votes were cast in which 178 votes were rejected.
And UPND president Hakainde Hichilema who witnessed the declaration of the winner thanked the people of Solwezi for voting for Mr Kasonso.
Mr. Hichilema says that the people of Solwezi have shown the way that the UPND will be the party to form government next year.
He says that it is only the UPND which can turn around the economy of the country and people must start trusting it and its leaders.
And Mr. Kasonso says his first task is to sit down with the people of Solwezi and draw a list of priority areas of development in the constituency.
