FIRST LADY Esther Lungu has said it is unwise for her as a mother of the nation to confine herself to State House without familiarising herself on how people are living in various parts of the country.

Ms Lungu said it is important for her to visit other provinces to appreciate and check on how people are surviving, especially that the people are the ones that voted President Edgar Lungu into office.
She said this in Itezhi-Tezhi, Central Province, where she is touring women’s clubs and other projects.

Ms Lungu said as a mother of the nation she had a duty to render support and help the vulnerable in the country.
“I am not a mother for the people of Lusaka only, I have a duty to offer support to the vulnerable in the country because I am a mother of the nation, it will be unwise for me to continue staying in State House without checking on people in other provinces,” she said.

She expressed happiness at the developmental projects in the area and that it showed the hard work and commitment from the women’s clubs.
Central Province Permanent Secretary Edwidge Mutale said the visit to the province would accord the First Lady the opportunity to appreciate the challenges and achievements recorded in the area.
Ms Lungu is expected to visit women’s clubs in Itezhi-Tezhi before proceeding to Mumbwa.
