Former Education Minister Dora Siliya says there is need to curb the raising cases of child defilement.

 

Ms Siliya who is PF Petauke Member of Parliament says recent concerns raised by Vice President Inonge Wina over the plight of girls need the attention of all citizens.

 

And Ms Siliya says she has organised a mass event on the girl child’s sexual vulnerability billed for August 29.

 

She was speaking in an interview with ZNBC news in Lusaka.

 

Ms Siliya regretted that 65 per cent of inmates have been penalised for sexual offences against defenceless girls whose lives are ruined after being impregnated.

 

 

And Government is concerned that some persons with disabilities have challenges with issues of privacy when accessing reproductive health services.

 

Community Development Minister Emerine Kabanshi says this is why government is working at implementing the disability Act to address the welfare of persons with disabilities.

 

Ms Kabanshi was speaking when she met some cooperating partners at her office.

 

The Minister said there is need to mainstream disability issues in all activities.

 

She said plans are underway to restructure the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities to make it more effective.

 

Head of Cooperation at that the Finish Embassy in Zambia Mauri Starckman said Finland supports government’s move to incorporate disability in national agenda.

 

And Turkish Ambassador to Zambia Ahmet Arda said his government is looking at areas of cooperation in the disability sector.
