Patriotic Front – PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri has urged police to arrest anyone who participated in an alleged attack on United Party for National Development – UPND President Hakainde Hichilema in Kitwe.
Ms. Phiri says police have all the support because President Edgar Lungu has already made his position that he does not support violence.
She says PF is a peaceful party adding that anyone perpetrating violence is not supporting the President.
And in a statement issued to ZNBC News Mr. Hichilema says the culture of political violence in our society should be condemned.
Mr. Hichilema has challenged all those in leadership to stop and address the culture of violence as the country goes into next year’s elections.
And Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini has ruled that the Minister of Home Affairs answers to allegations that United Party for National Development -UPND President Hakainde Hichilema was attacked in Kitwe.
Dr. Matibini has however, not given the date or time when the Minister should talk about the allegations.
The Speaker was making a ruling on a Point of Order raised by Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu who wanted to know whether citizens should protect themselves from attackers.
UPND and Patriotic Front-PF cadres clashed in Kitwe’s Chachacha Township on Wednesday near the UPND secretariat where its leader Hakainde Hichilema was meeting some provincial party officials.
Mr. Hichilema was in Kitwe to address a UPND provincial conference at the Kitwe Show Grounds.
Copperbelt Police Chief Joyce Kasosa also confirmed the development but said that no arrests were made.
Ms. Kasosa says the UPND applied for a permit for a meeting in the show grounds but that its leader Hakainde Hichilema decided to visit other areas, where they clashed with suspected PF cadres.
