ACC arrests two crime prevention officers

The Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested two community Crime Prevention Unit Officers of the neighbourhood Watch under the Zambia Police in Lundazi District for Corrupt Practices.

 

Joseph Demba aged 45 and Alick Lungu 48 have been jointly charged with one count of Corrupt Practices by Public Officers contrary to Section 19 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No.3 of 2012.

 

This has been revealed to ZANIS in Lusaka today by ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono.

 

Mr Moono explained that on unknown dates but between March 9, 2015 and March 15, 2015 in Lundazi District, the two culprits corruptly solicited for and did receive an amount of K360.00 cash as gratification from Bydon Zimba for them not to report the allegation of murder they had against him and his family to Lundazi police.

 

Mr. Moono said the two were nabbed during a surveillance operation which was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and Zambia Police in Lundazi’s Chanyalubwe area of Chief Zumwanda.

 

He said the two culprits are currently on bond and will soon appear in court.

 

Meanwhile, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has also arrested 30 people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

 

Those arrested are Patrick Nyirenda, 67 a peasant farmer of Kalukila Village in Chibombo District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 973kg and Emmanuel Kunda, 50, a Businessman of Kunda farm in Serenje District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 854kg.

 

The arrests have been confirmed to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Public Relation Officer Theresa Katongo.

 

Ms Katongo said on the Copperbelt , the Commission has arrested Danny Mumba, 23, a charcoal burner of Muchinshi farming block in Chingola for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 13.2kg and Danny Kasongo 34, a footballer residing at House No. 3586, Chifubu in Ndola for trafficking in cannabis weighing 2.4kg.

 

Mrs. Katongo said the Commission has also arrested people from Southern Province including a 29 year old bus conductor identified as Nchimunya of Mwapona Compund in Choma District for trafficking in 1.84kg of loose cannabis and Roy Sibachele , 36, a Peasant farmer of Chisowa Village in Monze District for trafficking in 1.65kg of loose cannabis.

 

She said all the suspects will appear in court soon.
