–Youths in Rufunsa District of Lusaka Province have praised government for continuing with the Youth Fund and skills training programmes aimed at improving their welfare.
And Lusaka Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta has called on youths to take advantage of various existing opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Meanwhile, Rufunsa District Commissioner Paul Kasongo has implored young people to take advantage of existing youth resource centres to acquire skills.
Speaking on behalf of other youths, Maron Nyangu said the Youth Fund has enabled young people to venture in productive activities.
This was during today’s Lusaka Province Youth Day Celebrations held in Rufunsa District, under the theme: “The youth buildings a stable and sustainable future”.
Nyangu explained that previously most young people used to indulge in illicit activities due to lack of employment opportunities in the province.
She petitioned government to consider increasing the fund so as to enable more young people access the facility.
And responding to the petition, Lusaka Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta called on all stakeholders involved in youth programmes to take advantage of the enormous youth population to translate their energy, innovation and skilfulness into productive economic drivers in the province.
Mr. Mwaliteta reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing most of the issues affecting the wellbeing of young people.
Earlier, Rufunsa District Commissioner Paul Kasongo advised skills training centres in the province to incorporate entrepreneurial skills in their training programmes to enable them to be self-reliant.
Mr. Kasongo further advised training centres to consider giving toolkits to graduands as start-up capital.
