The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says it is still faced with the dilemma of not knowing whether the 2016 general election will be held under a new constitution or not.
ECZ Spokesperson Cris Akufuna says the issue as to whether next year’s general election will be held under a new constitution or the current one is part of the consideration as preparations for the tripartite election continue.
Mr. Akufuna has told Qfm News by telephone that the Commission cannot presently assume whether what is in the final draft constitution is what will guide the holding of the 2016 elections.
He however states that the commission has resumed preparations for the 2016 polls which were temporary put on hold to pave way for the January 20th presidential election.
