Government is disappointed with Wednesday’s Daily Nation newspaper news story on the Nkoya Royal Council in Kaoma, Western Province, who have accused President Edgar Lungu of favouring one particular tribe in the Province in the appointments of people to various positions.

Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has described as unfair and unfortunate, remarks by the Nkoya Royal Council through its chairperson David Tamboka who has urged Government to reserve some positions for Nkoyas.

He says the statement is against the spirit of inclusiveness and unity which the PF Government under President Lungu has set out to build.

Mr. Kambwili says Government has a duty to serve the interest of all Zambians regardless of tribe, status or status in life.

He says Government is an embodiment of the collective will and well- being of the nation in which all the citizens have an equal say and stake.

Mr. Kambwili says it is unfortunate for anyone to promote tribally or regionally inclined statement as that has potential to create disunity and disharmony in the country.

He says Government holds the traditional leadership in high esteem and it is its expectation that the Nkoya Royal Council, like others in the country, will remain as reservoirs of peace and unity in the country.

And Mr. Mr. Kambwili has advised Press Association of Zambia -PAZA President Andrew Sakala to be professional and remove personal interest when commenting on national matters.

Mr. Sakala is reported to have said that it is unfair for the Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA to threaten The Post newspaper with closure when the Times ofZambia and other public media institutions owe the institution huge amounts of money in uncollected taxes.

Mr. Kambwili who is also Chief Government Spokesperson says, Mr Sakala as a former employee of the Times of Zambia and current president of PAZA, is well placed to offer constructive suggestions on the media rather than allow himself to be driven by personal considerations.

He says it is clear from his sentiments that Mr. Sakala is out of touch with issues concerning institutional members of his association such as the Times of Zambia.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kambwili has congratulated Councillor George Nyendwa on his election as new Mayor of the City of Lusaka.

Mr. Kambwili says Mr. Nyendwa’s election, unopposed, is a vote of confidence his fellow civic leaders have in him to serve as Mayor of the City of Lusaka.

Mr. Kambwili says Government has no doubt that under the leadership of Mr. Nyendwa residents of Lusaka can look forward to better water supply, a cleaner, beautiful and well planned capital city.

He says Government would also like to pay tribute to the immediate past Mayor of Lusaka Mulenga Sata for his efforts in transforming Lusaka into a clean and beautiful city.

Mr. Kambwili says Mr. Sata has left a firm foundation upon which the new Mayor will build.

And Transparency International Zambia -TIZ- says the move by government to start holding bi-weekly press conferences to explain various policies being implemented will increase transparency.

TIZ President Lee Habasonda says the Bi- weekly media press conferences will improve relations between government and the public.

He told ZNBC news in a telephone interview that luck of information flow from government to the public has had a negative effect on understanding government policies.

On Monday this Week Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili announced that every two weeks two Ministries will hold press conferences to explain what happening in their ministries.

He said this is aimed at improving transparency in government operations.
