A female health officer from Kabompo District Hospital has died in a car accident involving three (3) people that happened along the Mutanda-Chavuma road around 23:00hrs yesterday.
The other two are currently nursing injuries at Mufumbwe District Hospital after the car they were travelling in overturned in Kikonge area about 50km from the hospital.
Mufumbwe District Hospital Doctor, Misheck Shawa, identified the deceased as Nancy Mukosa, 27, a Hospital Administrator in Kabompo.
Dr Shawa said the survivors, Rex Ngoma, a Physiotherapist, and Jojo Mubanga, a driver are currently stable and undergoing treatment at the hospital.
He disclosed to ZANIS in Mufumbwe that the trio was on its way to Kabompo from Solwezi when the accident happened.
Dr Shawa also revealed that police this morning took Mr Mubanga into their custody to assist with investigations on the accident.
Meanwhile, Mufumbwe District Commissioner (DC), Mankishi Mukokwe, expressed sadness over the accident.
Ms Mukokwe said it was not good that lives have continued to be lost on highways and has since called on drivers to be cautious on roads.
She said she would engage the Road Development Agency (RDA) to improve safety conditions on the Mutanda-Chavuma road so as to prevent more deaths.
The District Commissioner has since passed her condolences to the family of Ms Mukosa and encouraged them to be strong during this difficult period.
