—-Chiefs in Serenje District of Central Province have called on President Edger Lungu to quickly install Senior Chief Muchinda of Serenje to restore order and dignity to Muchinda chiefdom and bring unity among chiefs in the district.

Speaking to ZANIS in separate interviews, Chiefs Chisomo and Kabamba of the Lala people said when late President Michael Sata met traditional leaders from Serenje district during last year’s Ichibwelamushi Ceremony held in Mkushi, he promised that he would quickly install senior Chief Muchinda.

The district has had no senior chief since 2009 following the death of Customes Kalunga Chimanama.

Delay to install a new chief has mainly been attributed to succession wrangles that ensued.

Chief Chisomo said since President Lungu promised to continue with programmes started by late President Sata, he should attend to the request from chiefs in Serenje immediately he settles down.

“Let him settle down and immediately attend to the promises his predecessor made to us last year at Ichibewlamushi. The installation of the senior chief would definitely unite us chiefs in the district,” chief Chisomo said.

And Chief Kabamba said the Muchinda chiefdom has been facing a lot of challenges in the last six years due lack of a traditional leader.

Chief Kabamba said if President Lungu installed a new chief in Muchinda chiefdom, order would be restored in the area.

The two chiefs also appealed to President Lungu to visit all the traditional leaders in the district to acquaint himself with the challenges the chiefdoms in the district are going through.

The traditional leaders said late President Sata had promised to visit the district for this purpose.
